In the early days of Vietnam, these were made of heavy canvas and when they got wet, the canvas would weigh down the fighter. Around 1967 the military started experimenting with nylon to lighten the load and still give the strength needed to last in battle. Although the nylon is not as quiet as the canvas, it is far superior for damp environments. This pouch also features the grenade carriers located on each side of the pouch, just in case you have some grenades that you want to carry.
